Good Government for America

I'm sick and tired of voting for these low life politicians including the local peons all the way up to the President who promise they will do all these great things when elected but once they get into office they do whatever they damn well please. They have brought this great country of ours to the brink of destruction. Often the things they do are directly against the majority opinion and wishes of the people they are supposed to serve. They show little or no regard for the will of the people who elected them. They give away trillions of our money without us having any say in the matter. They sell out to the special interests of lobbies ever present in Washington to line their own corrupt pockets. Many of these politicians go into office with little or no money and come out with their pockets bulging. They are arrogant, corrupt and totally out of touch with reality.

It's time for a change in the way we do politics in the USA. In fact there is no longer a need for politics. It's time for the will of the American people to determine what all elected officals are allowed to do. These elected officials need to be held accountable for the actions they take and not be allowed to do other than what we the people want them to do.

To solve the problem of corrupt politicans who do as they wish and institute true government by the will of the people I propose that 3 national opinion polls be setup. One poll is run by the government, one by the news media and the last run by the public with government funding. Additionally all American citizens over 18 would be issued a pin number which used in conjunction with their social security number will allow them to log onto web servers to participate in a 4th direct opinion poll if they so desire. All issues brought before either the president or congress would also be brought before the American people via a special TV channel and servers on the World Wide Web. Opinion polls would sample both nationally and regionally with results on a national level requiring the President to do as the people wish and regional results requiring the congressional members to vote accordingly. Opinion polls would require 2 out of the 3 polls to have a 51% plurality in favor of or against any issue in order to require the President or congress to act. If the web servers requiring a social security number and pin achieved a 30% of the population participation rate it's results would overide opinion polls results and again require the President or congress to act accordingly. The social security option would carry more weight because it would have a much larger participation rate than all of the opinion polls combined. Once an issue has passed the only way it can be removed would be by 2 or more of opinion polls or the social security option having a 66% plurality. This would prevent flip flopping once a new issue or law has been enacted.

A national think tank as well as web servers on net the would be set up to research and bring issues before the American people. Web servers will also allow anyone to bring forth issues for consideration and the people will decide which issues will be presented to congress. Additionally another TV channel will be set aside to discuss the issues to be presented for consideration. All the current lobbies that loby the white house will now have to lobby the American people directly. These rules can be applied on national, regional and local levels.

The naysayers will say that this type of system cannot work because the American people are not capable of governing themselves. This is the very thing the aristocracy of England said when America first revolted from the English monarchy. Over 230 years of self rule in the good old USA has shown without a doubt that citizens are more than fully capable of governing themselves. Monarchies are now a thing of the past with only a few minor dictatorships existing in todays world. I would contend that if as it is often said that "two heads are better than one" then certainly millions of heads are far better than two. I say that we the American people can do a far better job of ruling ourselves than any handful of elected officials who often have their own selfish interest at heart rather than a concern for the people they are supposed to represent.

I am asking American citizens to elect me as the President of the United States in order to install government as it should be. My only goal if elected is to implement the system as decribed above. My promise as President is that I will not sign anything or do anything against the expressed will of the people. Once I have freed our country from the clutches of these corrupt politicians I will resign and leave the country to be run strictly by the will of the people.

Who am I and what if any qualifications do I have to become the President? My name is J o e D a g u a n n o and I am simply an American citizen disgusted with watching our freedoms being eroded away on a daily basis by blind, deaf and dumb politicians. I have no special qualifications other than that I am a man of my word and if elected will impose the true will of the people on the government of the United States of America. The government should always be a slave to the people and not the other way around as it is in the USA today. It is not for the government to tell us how to live our lives but rather for us to tell the government how we want to live them.
